Removing zero rows of UU leaves A=L‾ U‾A = \underline{L}\,\underline{U}, where the rr columns of L‾\underline{L} span the column space of AA and the rr rows of U‾\underline{U} span the row space. Then A+A^+ has the explicit formula U‾T(U‾ U‾T)−1(L‾TL‾)−1L‾T\underline{U}^T(\underline{U}\,\underline{U}^T)^{-1}(\underline{L}^T\underline{L})^{-1}\underline{L}^T. Why is A+bA^+b in the row space with U‾T\underline{U}^T at the front? Why does ATAA+b=ATbA^TAA^+b = A^Tb, so that x+=A+bx^+ = A^+b satisfies the normal equation as it should?
