Problem

Consider a particle in hyperbolic motion, x(t)=b2+(ct)2,y=z=0.x(t) = \sqrt{b^2 + (ct)^2}, \quad y = z = 0. (a) Find the proper time τ\tau as a function of tt, assuming the clocks are set so that τ=0\tau = 0 when t=0t = 0. [Hint: Integrate Eq. 12.37.] (b) Find xx and vv (ordinary velocity) as functions of τ\tau. (c) Find ημ\eta^\mu (proper velocity) as a function of τ\tau.
