Problem

A perfectly straight portion of a uniform rope has mass MM and length LL. At end A of the segment, the tension in the rope is TAT_A; at end B it is TB>TAT_B > T_A. The tension in the rope at a distance L/5L/5 from end A is (a) TB−TAT_B - T_A; (b) (TA+TB)/5(T_A + T_B)/5; (c) (4TA+TB)/5(4T_A + T_B)/5; (d) (TA−TB)/5(T_A - T_B)/5.
