Problem

A particle PP of mass mm moves under the attractive inverse cube field F=−(mγ2/r3)r^\boldsymbol{F} = -(m\gamma^2/r^3)\hat{\boldsymbol{r}}, where γ\gamma is a positive constant. Initially PP is at a great distance from OO and is projected towards OO with speed VV along a line whose perpendicular distance from OO is pp. Obtain the path equation for PP. For the case in which V=15γ209 p,V = \frac{15\gamma}{\sqrt{209}\, p}, find the polar equation of the path of PP and make a sketch of it. Deduce the distance of closest approach to OO, and the final direction of departure.
