when appliances R₁ and R₂ are switched on, the fall of potential in the network is increased, the appliances requiring a large amount of current, and the lamps' incandescence is reduced. But the effect of switching on R₂, especially on the incandescence of L₂ is greater than the effect of switching on R₁, since the switching on of R₂ causes a fall of potential in the wires passing through the flat and the cross-section of these wires is less in area, and their resistance accordingly greater, than in the case of the wires which bring the current into the flat.
