Problem

(a) For a form ax2+bxy+cy2ax^2 + bxy + cy^2 of discriminant Δ\Delta we have the associated ideal L(a,b+Δ2)L(a, \frac{b+\sqrt{\Delta}}{2}) whose basis a,b+Δ2a, \frac{b+\sqrt{\Delta}}{2} determines a parallelogram PP. When Δ<0\Delta < 0 show that PP is a rhombus if and only if a=ca = c. (b) Give an example of a form ax2+bxy+ay2ax^2 + bxy + ay^2 with Δ>0\Delta > 0 for which PP is not a rhombus.
