Problem

A block of mass 4.0 kg4.0\,\text{kg} rests on a rough horizontal surface. Starting from rest, it is acted upon by a horizontal force of 60 N60\,\text{N} that lasts for 0.40 s0.40\,\text{s}. After the force ceases, the block continues to slide and finally stops after moving an additional 5.0 m5.0\,\text{m}. Take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}. a. (i) Find the speed of the block immediately after the 0.40 s0.40\,\text{s} interval. b. (ii) Calculate the coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the surface.
