Problem

A Van de Graaff generator dome is modeled as a spherical shell of radius R=1 mR = 1\,\text{m}. A smaller sphere of radius r=10 cmr = 10\,\text{cm} carrying charge q=5 μCq = 5\,\mu\text{C} is introduced inside the dome through an insulating opening and then connected to the dome by a conducting wire. Calculate the potential difference between the small sphere and the dome BEFORE the connection is made, if the dome initially carries charge Q=20 μCQ = 20\,\mu\text{C}.
