Problem

Let z12z^{\frac{1}{2}} be the principal branch of the square root function. (a) Evaluate ∫C12z12 dz\int_C \frac{1}{2z^{\frac{1}{2}}}\,dz, where CC is the line segment joining 99 to 3+4i3+4i. (b) Evaluate ∫Cz12 dz\int_C z^{\frac{1}{2}}\,dz, where CC is the right half of the circle C2+(0)C_2^+(0) joining −2i-2i to 2i2i.
