Problem

Let R∞R_\infty denote the total number of individuals who contract the disease. (a) Show that R∞=I0+S0−S∞R_\infty = I_0 + S_0 - S_\infty. (b) Let R1R_1 denote the members of (R)(R) who are removed from the population prior to the peak of the epidemic. Compute R1/R∞R_1 / R_\infty for each of the values of S0S_0 in 5a--5f. Notice that most of the removals occur after the peak. This type of asymmetry is often found in actual notifications of infectious diseases.
