Problem

(i) A nuclear reaction is proposed as 714N+24He  →  817O+X^{14}_{7}\text N + ^4_2\text{He} \; \rightarrow \; ^{17}_{8}\text O + X Determine the identity of the particle XX (give its symbol together with mass number and atomic number). (ii) Using the values obtained for all nuclei in the reaction, write down the separate numerical checks that establish conservation of (a) mass number and (b) atomic number. (iii) The reaction is known to liberate energy. Explain briefly why the two conservation checks in part (ii) remain valid even though energy is released. a. (i) Identify particle XX b. (ii) Show numerical conservation of mass number and atomic number c. (iii) Explain why these quantities are conserved despite energy release
