Problem

Take Q\mathbb{Q} with the standard metric, d(x,y)=∣x−y∣d(x,y) = |x-y|, as our metric space. Prove that Q\mathbb{Q} is totally disconnected, that is, show that for every x,y∈Qx, y \in \mathbb{Q} with x≠yx \neq y, there exist two open sets UU and VV such that x∈Ux \in U, y∈Vy \in V, U∩V=∅U \cap V = \emptyset, and U∪V=QU \cup V = \mathbb{Q}.
