Problem

A particle in the infinite square well (Equation 2.22) has the initial wave function Ψ(x,0)=Asin⁡3(πx/a)(0≤x≤a).\Psi(x, 0) = A\sin^3(\pi x/a) \quad (0 \leq x \leq a). Determine AA, find Ψ(x,t)\Psi(x, t), and calculate ⟨x⟩\langle x \rangle, as a function of time. What is the expectation value of the energy? Hint: sin⁡nθ\sin^n\theta and cos⁡nθ\cos^n\theta can be reduced, by repeated application of the trigonometric sum formulas, to linear combinations of sin⁡(mθ)\sin(m\theta) and cos⁡(mθ)\cos(m\theta), with m=0,1,2,…,nm = 0, 1, 2, \ldots, n.
