Problem

Let f(x)=x2−4f(x)=x^{2}-4 and g(x)=x−2g(x)=x-2, where x∈Rx\in\mathbb R and g(x)≠0g(x)\neq0. Answer the following questions about the quotient function. a. (i) Simplify the expression (fg)(x)\displaystyle \bigl(\tfrac{f}{g}\bigr)(x) as far as possible. b. (ii) State the domain of (fg)(x)\displaystyle \bigl(\tfrac{f}{g}\bigr)(x), clearly explaining any restrictions that arise both before and after simplification. c. (iii) Using your simplified form, find the numerical value of (fg)(3)\displaystyle \bigl(\tfrac{f}{g}\bigr)(3).
