Problem

Suppose S,T∈L(V)S, T \in \mathcal{L}(V) and SS is invertible. Define p ⁣:F→Fp\colon \mathbf{F} \to \mathbf{F} by p(z)=det⁡(zS−T).p(z) = \det(zS - T). Prove that pp is a polynomial of degree dim⁡V\dim V and that the coefficient of zdim⁡Vz^{\dim V} in this polynomial is det⁡S\det S.
