Problem

a. A 0.20 kg0.20\,\text{kg} block executing simple harmonic motion on a frictionless surface is found to have an acceleration of 1.8 m s−21.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2} directed toward the equilibrium position when its displacement is 0.040 m0.040\,\text{m} from equilibrium. b. (i) Show that the measured acceleration is consistent with simple harmonic motion by evaluating the proportionality between acceleration and displacement. c. (ii) Determine the spring constant of the system. d. (iii) If the amplitude of oscillation is increased to 0.060 m0.060\,\text{m}, calculate the total mechanical energy stored in the motion.
