Problem

Let VV be a complex vector space, JJ a conjugation on VV, WW the set of α\alpha in VV such that Jα=αJ\alpha = \alpha, and ff an inner product on WW. Show that: (a) There is a unique inner product gg on VV such that g(α,β)=f(α,β)g(\alpha, \beta) = f(\alpha, \beta) for all α\alpha, β\beta in WW. (b) g(Jα,Jβ)=g(β,α)g(J\alpha, J\beta) = g(\beta, \alpha) for all α\alpha, β\beta in VV. What does part (a) say about the relation between the standard inner products on R1R^1 and C1C^1, or on RnR^n and CnC^n?
