Problem

Let VV be the vector space over the complex numbers of all functions from RR into CC, i.e., the space of all complex-valued functions on the real line. Let f1(x)=1f_1(x) = 1, f2(x)=eixf_2(x) = e^{ix}, f3(x)=e−ixf_3(x) = e^{-ix}. (a) Prove that f1f_1, f2f_2, and f3f_3 are linearly independent. (b) Let g1(x)=1g_1(x) = 1, g2(x)=cos⁡xg_2(x) = \cos x, g3(x)=sin⁡xg_3(x) = \sin x. Find an invertible 3×33 \times 3 matrix PP such that gj=∑i=13Pijfi.g_j = \sum_{i=1}^{3} P_{ij} f_i.
