Problem

Prove that each orthonormal family in a Hilbert space can be extended to an orthonormal basis of the Hilbert space. Specifically, suppose {ej}j∈Ω\{e_j\}_{j\in\Omega} is an orthonormal family in a Hilbert space VV. Prove that there exists a set Γ\Gamma containing Ω\Omega and an orthonormal basis {fk}k∈Γ\{f_k\}_{k\in\Gamma} of VV such that fj=ejf_j = e_j for every j∈Ωj \in \Omega.
