Problem

Suppose AA and BB are block diagonal matrices of the form A=(A10⋱0Am),B=(B10⋱0Bm),A = \begin{pmatrix} A_1 & & 0 \\ & \ddots & \\ 0 & & A_m \end{pmatrix}, \quad B = \begin{pmatrix} B_1 & & 0 \\ & \ddots & \\ 0 & & B_m \end{pmatrix}, where AkA_k and BkB_k are square matrices of the same size for each k=1,…,mk = 1, \ldots, m. Show that ABAB is a block diagonal matrix of the form AB=(A1B10⋱0AmBm).AB = \begin{pmatrix} A_1 B_1 & & 0 \\ & \ddots & \\ 0 & & A_m B_m \end{pmatrix}.
