Problem

Answer the following questions related to an ideal transformer: a. (i) List the two principal assumptions that make a practical transformer behave ideally. b. (ii) Starting from the principle of conservation of energy, derive the relationship VsVp=NsNp\displaystyle \frac{V_s}{V_p}=\frac{N_s}{N_p} and IsIp=NpNs\displaystyle \frac{I_s}{I_p}=\frac{N_p}{N_s} for an ideal transformer. c. (iii) Using your result in part (ii), explain qualitatively why stepping up the voltage necessarily steps down the current in an ideal transformer.
