Problem

Suppose v1,…,vnv_1, \ldots, v_n is a basis of VV and w1,…,wmw_1, \ldots, w_m is a basis of WW. (a) Show that if S,T∈L(V,W)S, T \in \mathcal{L}(V, W), then M(S+T)=M(S)+M(T)\mathcal{M}(S + T) = \mathcal{M}(S) + \mathcal{M}(T). (b) Show that if λ∈F\lambda \in \mathbf{F} and T∈L(V,W)T \in \mathcal{L}(V, W), then M(λT)=λM(T)\mathcal{M}(\lambda T) = \lambda \mathcal{M}(T). This exercise asks you to verify 3.35 and 3.38.
