Problem

A circle is centered at (a,a)(a, a) where a>0a > 0, and has a radius rr such that r<a2r < a\sqrt{2}. If the tangents drawn from the origin to this circle have slopes m1m_{1} and m2m_{2}, prove that m1m2=1m_{1} m_{2} = 1, and explain the geometric significance of this result regarding the line y=xy = x.
