Problem

While checking whether x=4x = 4 is a solution of the equation 3x−2=103x - 2 = 10, Rina wrote the following steps: 3(4)−2=12−2=83(4) - 2 = 12 - 2 = 8 ∴8=10\therefore 8 = 10 Hence, she concluded that x=4x = 4 is not a solution. a. (i) Identify the arithmetic error in Rina’s working. b. (ii) Correct the checking process and state whether x=4x = 4 satisfies the equation.
