Problem

Consider a system whose state ∣ψ(t)⟩|\psi(t)\rangle and two observables AA and BB are given by ∣ψ(t)⟩=(513),A=12(200011011),B=(100001010).|\psi(t)\rangle = \begin{pmatrix} 5 \\ 1 \\ 3 \end{pmatrix}, \quad A = \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}} \begin{pmatrix} 2 & 0 & 0 \\ 0 & 1 & 1 \\ 0 & 1 & 1 \end{pmatrix}, \quad B = \begin{pmatrix} 1 & 0 & 0 \\ 0 & 0 & 1 \\ 0 & 1 & 0 \end{pmatrix}. (a) We perform a measurement where AA is measured first and then BB immediately afterwards. Find the probability of obtaining a value of 2\sqrt{2} for AA and a value of −1-1 for BB. (b) Now we measure BB first and then AA immediately afterwards. Find the probability of obtaining a value of −1-1 for BB and a value of 2\sqrt{2} for AA. (c) Compare the results of (a) and (b). Explain.
