Problem

a. During a lightning strike, the current is not constant. Observations show that the current is approximately 30 kA30\,\text{kA} for the first 1 ms1\,\text{ms} and then drops to 10 kA10\,\text{kA} for the next 2 ms2\,\text{ms}. b. (i) Calculate the total charge transferred from cloud to ground by this lightning bolt. c. (ii) Suppose the same amount of charge were allowed to flow steadily through a conductor in 0.50 s0.50\,\text{s}. Determine the average current that would then be required. d. (iii) Comment on how the current in an actual lightning strike compares with the current you calculated for the steady case.
