Problem

The fundamental theorem is often stated in the form of Fredholm's alternative: For any AA and bb, one and only one of the following systems has a solution: ((i)) Ax=bAx = b. ((ii)) ATy=0A^Ty = 0, yTb≠0y^Tb \neq 0. Either bb is in the column space C(A)C(A) or there is a yy in N(AT)N(A^T) such that yTb≠0y^Tb \neq 0. Show that it is contradictory for (i) and (ii) both to have solutions.
