Problem

A piecewise linear function h(x)h(x) has a local minimum at y=5y = 5 and a local maximum at y=12y = 12. If the function is shifted vertically downwards by kk units so that the new function p(x)=h(x)−kp(x) = h(x) - k has exactly one root (touches the xx -axis at the local minimum), determine the value of kk and the new maximum value of p(x)p(x).
