Problem

The following data were obtained for two springs, P and Q: \nSpring P: 0 N0\,\text{N} causes 0 cm0\,\text{cm} extension and 6 N6\,\text{N} causes 3 cm3\,\text{cm} extension. \nSpring Q: 0 N0\,\text{N} causes 0 cm0\,\text{cm} extension and 6 N6\,\text{N} causes 2 cm2\,\text{cm} extension. \nAssume each spring follows Hooke’s law within this range. a. (a) Which spring has the larger spring constant? b. (b) Calculate the elastic potential energy stored in spring P when it is extended by 3 cm3\,\text{cm}. c. (c) Calculate the elastic potential energy stored in spring Q when it is extended by 3 cm3\,\text{cm} and state which spring stores more energy at this extension.
