Problem

A copper bar of length 90 cm and cross section: 3.20 cm23.20 \, \mathrm{cm}^{2} is attached, end to end, to a steel bar of length LL and cross section: 6.40 cm26.40 \, \mathrm{cm}^{2}. The composite bar is subjected to equal and opposite tensions of 3,000 kg3,000 \, \mathrm{kg} at its ends. Calculate: a) The length of the steel bar if the elongations of both bars are equal. b) The fatigue of each bar. c) The final length of the bar. We know that Young's Modules for steel and copper are: 2×104 kg/mm22 \times 10^{4} \, \mathrm{kg} / \mathrm{mm}^{2} & 104 kg/mm210^{4} \, \mathrm{kg} / \mathrm{mm}^{2} respectively.
