Problem

At a polar angle θ\theta, a projectile is fired eastward at an inclination angle α\alpha above the ground. Find the westward and southward deflections due to the Coriolis force. In terms of θ\theta, what angle αmax⁡\alpha_{\max} yields the maximum total distance of deflection? What is αmax⁡\alpha_{\max} when θ\theta equals 60∘60^\circ, 45∘45^\circ, and (approximately) 0∘0^\circ? What about values of θ\theta larger than 60∘60^\circ?
