Problem

A block is pulled along a horizontal frictionless surface from x=0x=0 to x=10 mx=10\,\text{m}. The force acting on it satisfies the following conditions: 1. F=0F=0 at x=0x=0. 2. FF increases uniformly with xx to reach 20 N20\,\text{N} at x=5 mx=5\,\text{m}. 3. From x=5 mx=5\,\text{m} to x=10 mx=10\,\text{m} the force remains constant at an unknown value F2F_2. 4. The required net work done on the block over the complete 10 m10\,\text{m} journey is 50 J50\,\text{J}. a. (a) Draw a labelled sketch of one possible FF versus xx graph consistent with the above information. b. (b) Determine the magnitude of F2F_2 that satisfies condition 4. c. (c) If, instead, the magnitude found in part (b) were doubled while all other conditions remained unchanged, calculate the new net work done and state whether it is positive, negative, or zero.
