Problem

Consider a system whose initial state at t=0t = 0 is given in terms of a complete and orthonormal set of four vectors ∣ϕ1⟩|\phi_1\rangle, ∣ϕ2⟩|\phi_2\rangle, ∣ϕ3⟩|\phi_3\rangle, ∣ϕ4⟩|\phi_4\rangle as follows: ∣ψ(0)⟩=A12∣ϕ1⟩+16∣ϕ2⟩+212∣ϕ3⟩+12∣ϕ4⟩,|\psi(0)\rangle = \frac{A}{\sqrt{12}}|\phi_1\rangle + \frac{1}{\sqrt{6}}|\phi_2\rangle + \frac{2}{\sqrt{12}}|\phi_3\rangle + \frac{1}{2}|\phi_4\rangle, where AA is a real constant. (a) Find AA so that ∣ψ(0)⟩|\psi(0)\rangle is normalized. (b) If the energies corresponding to ∣ϕ1⟩|\phi_1\rangle, ∣ϕ2⟩|\phi_2\rangle, ∣ϕ3⟩|\phi_3\rangle, ∣ϕ4⟩|\phi_4\rangle are given by E1E_1, E2E_2, E3E_3, and E4E_4, respectively, write down the state of the system ∣ψ(t)⟩|\psi(t)\rangle at any later time tt. (c) Determine the probability of finding the system at a time tt in the state ∣ϕ2⟩|\phi_2\rangle.
