Problem

A learner suggests that the magnitude FF of the centripetal force acting on a body of mass mm moving with speed vv in a circle of radius rr can be written in the general form F=(2π)dmavbrcF = (2\pi)^{d} m^{a} v^{b} r^{c}, where aa, bb, cc and dd are real numbers. (i) Using dimensional arguments, determine the values of aa, bb and cc. (ii) Show that the numerical constant (2π)d(2\pi)^{d} must be dimensionless, and hence comment on the possible value(s) of dd. (iii) Write the final dimensionally correct expression for FF. a. (i) Determine aa, bb, cc using dimensional analysis. b. (ii) Show (2π)d(2\pi)^{d} is dimensionless and comment on dd. c. (iii) Write the final expression for FF.
