Problem

Prove that the field of fractions of the Gaussian integers, Z[i]\mathbb{Z}[i], is Q(i)={p+qi:p,q∈Q}.\mathbb{Q}(i) = \{p + qi : p, q \in \mathbb{Q}\}. Hint. Let z=a+biz = a + bi and w=c+di≠0w = c + di \neq 0 be in Z[i]\mathbb{Z}[i]. Prove that z/w∈Q(i)z/w \in \mathbb{Q}(i).
