Problem

(a) Determine the lowest-order amplitude for A+B→A+BA + B \to A + B. [Note: There are two diagrams.] (b) Find the differential cross section for this process in the CMCM frame, assuming mA=mB=mm_A = m_B = m, mC=0m_C = 0. Express your answer in terms of the incident energy, EE, and the scattering angle, θ\theta. (c) Find dσ/dΩd\sigma/d\Omega for this process in the lab frame, assuming BB is much heavier than AA, and remains stationary. AA is incident with energy EE. [Hint: See Problem (6.8). Assume mB≫mAm_B \gg m_A, mCm_C, and E/c2E/c^2.] (d) In case (c), find the total cross section, σ\sigma.
