Problem

In the text we used equation (5.99) to calculate the masses of light quark pseudoscalar and vector mesons. But the same formula can be applied to heavy quark systems involving charm and beauty quarks. (a) Calculate the masses of the pseudoscalar mesons ηc(ccˉ)\eta_c(c\bar{c}), D(cuˉ)D(c\bar{u}), F(csˉ)F(c\bar{s}), and the corresponding vector mesons ψ(ccˉ)\psi(c\bar{c}), D∗(cuˉ)D^*(c\bar{u}), and F∗(csˉ)F^*(c\bar{s}). Compare the experimental values, from the Particle Data Booklet. (b) Do the same for the ``beautiful'' mesons buˉb\bar{u}, bsˉb\bar{s}, bcˉb\bar{c}, and bbˉb\bar{b}. [At present only the pseudoscalar B(buˉ)B(b\bar{u}) and the vector Υ(bbˉ)\Upsilon(b\bar{b}) have been detected experimentally.]
