Problem

(i) Differentiate between average acceleration and instantaneous acceleration in your own words. (ii) A scooter starts at t=0 st = 0\,\text{s} with a velocity of 10 m/s10\,\text{m/s}. By t=4 st = 4\,\text{s} its velocity becomes 2 m/s2\,\text{m/s}. It then continues at the same velocity till t=7 st = 7\,\text{s}. From t=7 st = 7\,\text{s} to t=9 st = 9\,\text{s} it moves in the opposite direction and its velocity changes uniformly to −4 m/s-4\,\text{m/s}. Draw a qualitative velocity–time graph for the entire motion. (iii) Using the graph drawn in part (ii), identify the time intervals in which the scooter has (a) positive acceleration, (b) zero acceleration, and (c) negative acceleration. Explain your choice for each interval. a. Differentiate between average acceleration and instantaneous acceleration in your own words. b.
