Problem

Suppose TT is a bounded operator on a complex nonzero Banach space VV. ((a)) Prove that the function α↦φ((T−αI)−1f)\alpha \mapsto \varphi\left((T - \alpha I)^{-1} f\right) is analytic on C∖sp(T)\mathbf{C} \setminus \mathrm{sp}(T) for every f∈Vf \in V and every φ∈V′\varphi \in V'. ((b)) Prove that sp(T)≠∅\mathrm{sp}(T) \neq \emptyset.
