Problem

Let F\mathfrak{F} be any family of linear operators on a finite-dimensional inner product space VV and A\mathfrak{A} the self-adjoint algebra generated by F\mathfrak{F}. Show that (a) each root of A\mathfrak{A} defines a root of F\mathfrak{F}; (b) each root rr of A\mathfrak{A} is a multiplicative linear function on AA, i.e., r(TU)=r(T)r(U)r(TU) = r(T)r(U) r(cT+U)=cr(T)+r(U)r(cT + U) = cr(T) + r(U) for all TT and UU in A\mathfrak{A} and all scalars cc.
