Problem
Let T be a linear operator on C2 which preserves the quadratic form x12−x22. Show that
(a) det(T)=±1.
(b) If M is the matrix of T in the standard basis, then M22=±M11, M21=±M12, M112−M122=1.
(c) If detM=1, then there is a non-zero complex number c such that
M=21c+c1c−c1c−c1c+c1.
(d) If detM=−1 then there is a complex number c such that
M=21c+c1−c+c1c−c1−c−c1.
