Problem

The complete set expansion of an initial wave function ψ(x,0)\psi(x, 0) of a system in terms of orthonormal energy eigenfunctions ϕn(x)\phi_n(x) of the system has three terms, n=1,2,3n = 1, 2, 3. The measurement of energy on the system represented by ψ(x,0)\psi(x, 0) gives three values, E1E_1 and E2E_2 with probability 1/41/4 and E3E_3 with probability 1/21/2. (a) Write down ψ(x,0)\psi(x, 0) in terms of ϕ1(x)\phi_1(x), ϕ2(x)\phi_2(x), and ϕ3(x)\phi_3(x). (b) Find ψ(x,0)\psi(x, 0) at any later time tt, i.e., find ψ(x,t)\psi(x, t).
