Problem

Suppose T∈L(V,W)T \in \mathcal{L}(V, W) and s>0s > 0. Prove that ss is a singular value of TT if and only if there exist nonzero vectors v∈Vv \in V and w∈Ww \in W such that Tv=swandT∗w=sv.Tv = sw \quad \text{and} \quad T^*w = sv. The vectors v,wv, w satisfying both equations above are called a Schmidt pair. Erhard Schmidt introduced the concept of singular values in 1907.
