The nucleus of the helium isotope 4He has Z=2 and N=2. The following nuclear masses are provided:
mp=1.00727u, mn=1.00866u, mass of 4He nucleus =4.00150u, 1u=1.6605×10−27kg=931.5MeV/c2.
a. (i) Calculate the mass defect of the 4He nucleus in atomic mass units (u).
b. (ii) Determine the binding energy of the nucleus in (a) joule and (b) mega-electron-volt (MeV).
c. (iii) Find the binding energy per nucleon in MeV for 4He.
