Problem

Suppose VV and WW are finite-dimensional and S,T∈L(V,W)S, T \in \mathcal{L}(V, W). Prove that there exist invertible E1∈L(V)E_1 \in \mathcal{L}(V) and E2∈L(W)E_2 \in \mathcal{L}(W) such that S=E2TE1S = E_2 T E_1 if and only if dim⁡null⁡S=dim⁡null⁡T\dim \operatorname{null} S = \dim \operatorname{null} T.
