Problem

A horizontal wire PQPQ of length 1 m1\,\text{m} is suspended from a spring of spring constant k=100 N/mk = 100\,\text{N/m}. Another wire RSRS is fixed vertically below PQPQ at a distance of 1 cm1\,\text{cm}. Initially, with no current, the system is in equilibrium. When equal currents II pass through both wires in the same direction, the spring stretches by an additional 1 mm1\,\text{mm} (0.001 m0.001\,\text{m}). Calculate the magnitude of the current II.
