Problem

Let VV be a finite-dimensional vector space and ff a non-degenerate symmetric bilinear form on VV. Show that for each linear operator TT on VV there is a unique linear operator T′T' on VV such that f(Tα,β)=f(α,T′β)f(T\alpha, \beta) = f(\alpha, T'\beta) for all α,β\alpha, \beta in VV. Also show that (T1T2)′=T2′T1′(T_1 T_2)' = T_2' T_1' (c1T1+c2T2)′=c1T1′+c2T2′(c_1 T_1 + c_2 T_2)' = c_1 T_1' + c_2 T_2' (T′)′=T.(T')' = T. How much of the above is valid without the assumption that TT is non-degenerate?
