Problem

Let AA be an n×nn \times n matrix over a field, A≠0A \neq 0. If rr is any positive integer between 11 and nn, an r×rr \times r submatrix of AA is any r×rr \times r matrix obtained by deleting (n−r)(n-r) rows and (n−r)(n-r) columns of AA. The determinant rank of AA is the largest positive integer rr such that some r×rr \times r submatrix of AA has a non-zero determinant. Prove that the determinant rank of AA is equal to the row rank of AA (== column rank AA).
