Problem

Let VV be a complex vector space and WW a subset of VV with the following properties: (a) WW is a real vector space with respect to the operations defined in VV. (b) For each α\alpha in VV there exist unique vectors β\beta, γ\gamma in WW such that α=β+iγ\alpha = \beta + i\gamma. Show that the equation Jα=β−iγJ\alpha = \beta - i\gamma defines a conjugation on VV such that Jα=αJ\alpha = \alpha if and only if α\alpha belongs to WW, and show also that JJ is the only conjugation on VV with this property.
