Problem

Let VV be a finite-dimensional vector space and let B={α1,…,αn}\mathfrak{B} = \{\alpha_1, \ldots, \alpha_n\} be a basis for VV. Let ( ∣ )( \ | \ ) be an inner product on VV. If c1,…,cnc_1, \ldots, c_n are any nn scalars, show that there is exactly one vector α\alpha in VV such that (α∣αj)=cj(\alpha|\alpha_j) = c_j, j=1,…,nj = 1, \ldots, n.
